Its Time. Go tell the fire lord, The head nurse told a young servant girl. Zuko sat on his throne behind the wall of fire, trying not to yawn while listening to the council members talked about trade. He looked over to his Uncle to see if he was following the discussion. Iroh sat in his corner slowly nodding to sleep. They had both been here since early morning and now it was noon. Zuko was glad the fire hid his face; he could feel his eyes getting heavy, when he caught sight of a young servant girl rushing through the main doors of the council room instead of through the servant door. She moved toward him unnoticed by the council members. Your Highness, the Fire lady says its time, she said a little out of breath, with that she retreated through the servants door. It was time? What was it time for? Zuko thought a little puzzled. He went over everything he and Katara talked over that morning before the meeting in his head. Her family wasnt coming for another few weeks, the dinner with the Earth king wasnt until the end of the week, and he had seen to it that their little garden was trimmed. The last thing he remembered was giving her a kiss before he left and she whispered something about any day now. Then it clicked, it was time. IT WAS TIME!
My Lord what is your decision? a council man said snootily. What? Zuko said coming back to where he was. What is your decision on the new trade route? The council man said a little shocked that he wasnt paying attention. Im sorry but we will have to save this for another day, Zuko stood up and locked eyes with his Uncle who had woken up when he saw the servant girl come in. But Sir this is important, the council members said with surprise that their Lord would put an end to the meeting before it was done. There is another pressing matter at hand, right now. You can direct all questions to General Iroh, with that Zuko left through a back door. Once he was out he raced down the halls toward the royal apartments. He was almost there when he heard Katara yell in pain. Im coming, Zuko thought, the yell making him move faster. When he reached the doors to their rooms, he stopped and took a deep breath trying to calm his racing heart. He was just about to go in when the doors opened and the doctor appeared with a tired old face. The old man looked up when he saw Zuko standing there. My Lord, he said with a bow. Is she alright? How is she doing? Hows the baby? Is everything fine? Zuko bombard him with questions. Yes, everything is fine. Your wife is doing just fine and the baby is nice and healthy, the doctor smiled at the Fire lord. He was use to seeing the Fire lord calm and collected. Zuko let out his breath that he had been holding. All his thoughts were now focused on seeing Katara with his own eyes.
He turned away from the old doctor and went into the first room. Everything was so busy; maids were cleaning up and putting the rooms back in order. He walked across the sitting room toward the door that led to the bedroom. He was stopped by the head nurse just in the doorway. Your Highness, she is doing fine but tired,
Thank you, Zuko nodded his head. She bowed and walked away. He entered the room to see Katara in bed, her damp dark brown hair all round her. Her back was supported by the pillows and in her arms was their child. She looked up at him when she saw him in the doorway. Her deep blue eyes glowed with happiness, she smiled at him. She looked so beautiful. Well, are you going to stand there all day or are you going to come meet our son? Katara quietly teased. Zuko walked over to them in a daze. Uh boy, thought Zuko. He looked into the bundle in her arms. A peachy pink face with light blue eyes looked out at him, just a little bit of dark fuzz dusted his head. What should we name him? Zuko asked softly. I know but you should show him to Uncle first, Katara handed the baby to Zuko. Watch his head, She warned. Katara laid back and sighed tiredly. Zuko held the baby like it was a fragile piece of glass that if he moved it, it would break. Its ok, my love hes not going to break, just dont drop him, giggled Katara. Zuko walked out of the rooms with his son in his arms about to look for uncle Iroh when Iroh turned the corner. Congratulations my nephew! I hear you have a son,
Thanks Uncle,
Iroh looked at the bundle in Zukos arms and remembered when he first held his own son. Would you like to hold him? Zuko placed the baby in his arms. Watch his head, Zuko said worriedly. Iroh smiled at the way Zuko sounded like a mother hen already. He looked down at his great nephew. He looks just like Zuko when he was just a babe with only one exception his eyes were a lighter version of his mothers; thought Iroh. I wonder if he will be a great water-bender like her. What have you named him? Iroh asked without looking up from the babys face. We decided to call him Lu Ten. If thats alright with you? Zuko said nervously. At this Iroh looked up at his nephew, his eyes glassy with unshed tears and smiled I would be honored more than anything, Iroh replied happily.
